Healthy Houmous Dr Michael Greger FAN



MY OWN HEALTHY HOUMOUS RECIPE

However, I do hope to find a way to cut out Herbamare (the salt replacement)

1 cup of ALMONDS
1/4 cup of CASH NUTS
2 tsp TURMERIC
1 tsp HERBAMARE (salt replacement, add to taste)
1 cup of DISTILLED WATER
2 CLOVES OF GARLIC
1 LEMON
4 tsp SESAME SEEDS

Place all the ingredients in a blender, until smooth. Place in a glass jar, and keep in the fridge.
This usually lasts me two days.

My Blueberry and Kale Smoothie Recipe




My name is Sharon J. Bainbridge, and I am a massive Dr Michael Greger FAN! Thanks to our Home Ed friends, I started to question what I was eating. But more importantly, what I was feeding my family. Seeing our friends eat organically, and Vegan. No chocolate, biscuits in the house. Made me really think about how bad my health was, and loved ones. Amazingly enough, I found that the chemicals in our foods made me wheeze with Asthma, I can prove this as I keep a HEALTH DIARY! Once I cut these out, and eat a more plant based diet, I can actually get off my inhalers.

My friend, an ex nurse, warned me how damaging medicines are to our health. And she was really concerned that I try and get off the Inhalers. She introduced me to Buteyko, which teaches you to breathe through the nose. I still have not mastered this. But my daughter has. However, working out that it is actually the foods I consumed that made me ill, I found more beneficial. All thanks to Google, You Tube and Dr Michael Greger.

Gluten free PARSLEY SAUCE healthy


My partner is extra fussy. So if he likes this Healthy Gluten Free Parsley Sauce, it must be OK. You get approximately two services out of this recipe. Or one, and a half. I store the leftovers in the freezer.

PARSLEY SAUCE RECIPE (GLUTEN FREE)

1 cup of unsalted cashew nuts
Half a cup of fresh parsley (or 1 teaspoon or dried parsley)
1 clove of garlic
1 red onion
1 and a half teaspoons of HERBAMARE (salt replacement)
NOTE. My partner is a Junk Food Addict. So it may be too salty for some. So just add to taste!
1 cup of distilled water

Blend all the ingredients together. Place in a saucepan. Cook on medium heat (electric setting No.5). Turn down and simmer once it starts to thicken up. This takes approximately 10 minutes.

I usually cook for 10 minutes on number 5. Then simmer for another 10 minutes.

I used to be a Junk Food Addict, as my partner is. Thankfully, Google, You Tube, and Dr. Michael Greger have changed my life. To think over two years ago I was ten and a half stone in weight. My normal weight is eight stone, as I am only short. Funny thing is, my weight did not bother me, because my partner never mentioned how I had changed. That is what I love about him the most. Some people can be such bullies when it comes to picking on others about the way they look etc. Anyway, my friend, an ex Nurse, warned me about the Asthma Inhalers. She tried to get me to look into special breathing techniques. I looked at how healthy she was, compared to me. And she is older by the way. Quite honestly, I was intrigued at how she was not eating sweets, cookies, and all the other bad stuff. When she cooked her Vegan meals, I really enjoyed them. So that is why when I got home I decided to do some research. Don't you just love Google, and You Tube! My life has most certainly changed for the better now I am aware that JUNK FOODS ETC CAUSE ASTHMA.

I am counting the days for Dr Michael Greger's cook book to come out. Hopefully, I can find some recipes that we can all eat as a family. That will save me so much time in washing up. Cooking three separate meals every day is hard work! However, I prefer to eat 90% raw foods to get the full nutrition. But winter time, I feel your body needs warm foods. Especially, in the UK. 

I FEEL THAT AS A MOTHER, IT IS MY JOB TO KEEP MY FAMILY HEALTHY. SO IT HAS TO START WITH ME PROVING TO THEM THAT THE DIET WORKS!

Sylvanian Families SCHOOL UNIFORMS handmade


Melody, my daughter, begged me to make these little school uniforms for her Sylvanian Families. Why? Because she wanted to sell her Sylvanian Grove School. The good news is, it sold!

Here are some pictures of the little costumes I made. I used an old pair of black leggings. Bit of elastic, and some white felt. Even the Sylvanian Families Facebook Page loved them. 

Melody took these photographs, I think they are fab. She has a real eye for photography:

NO MSG GRAVY RECIPE HEALTHY WITH VEG



This gravy recipe is suitable for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans! Especially good for kids that hate veg!

I added broccoli sprouts to my normal gravy recipe, so was not sure if Melody would like it. Thankfully, she eat it! YES!

In our household we all eat different things. Tell me about it. Lots of washing up for MUM! But I aim to please. And do not believe in giving children foods they do not like, and will not eat. 

NO MSG GRAVY RECIPE

This recipe is for one person. My daughter loves her gravy. You could float a small boat in it, LOL!

1 cup of Kale
Medium carrot grated
1 cup of frozen broccoli (Dr Greger recommends frozen)
1 heaped tablespoon of Broccoli Sprouts (optional)
1 half tablespoons of Bisto ORIGINAL Gravy mix
Quarter cup of Japanese Knotweed/Plantain water (optional)
8 oz of distilled water

Add all the ingredients to a blender, blend until smooth. Place in a saucepan, and cook on a medium to low heat for approximately 20 minutes. Once the gravy starts turning brown, turn down the heat and let it simmer. My daughter is fussy, and I mean FUSSY! So I have to sieve the gravy. 

In the above video, I was not sure the gravy would turn out OK, as I added another vegetable. Crafty Mum! Luckily for me, she did not notice, and still eat the gravy. Nothing more satisfying than when a total fluke turns out to be a huge success!

Here is a gravy video I made in 2010. Seven years ago. You can see I used to use MSG gravy power without knowing! And I added vegetables cooked in fat. Home Education has not only helped my daughter, but it has changed my life, and made me a better mum. If it was not for Home Education, I would never have found out about Dr. Michael Greger who has helped me cure my Asthma. Now I can work on my families health. 


As a child I was told brussels sprouts are good for us.  Problem is, "I HATED THEM!" The Tomato Ketchup was on the dinner table ... as a test. And I fell for it. As I reached for the ketchup to drown out the taste of brussels sprouts, my nan said, "Don't insult my cooking!" Back then I did not understand what the big deal was, but I know now. But guess what, I love brussels sprouts now. That is why I do not get worried about what my daughter eats. I try my best to work around what she likes. Sneaking nutrition into things like gravy, and smoothies. We laugh at how her ex friends mother used to make her eat food she did not like, and how she spat it out in the toilet. Who can blame her, chunky chips are far from healthy!

I cannot thank Google and You Tube enough! If it was not for their free service, I would never have found Dr. Michael Greger, and his free Nutrition videos on how plants heal your body. And I have to give a huge thanks to my friend, ex nurse, who warned me about the dangers of taking Inhalers for Asthma. But if you need the inhaler, you must take it, you cannot mess around with Asthma! I only managed to get off my inhalers by keeping an Asthma Diary of everything I eat. I know what makes me ill. To be able to breathe again without medication has done wonders for my health. I am in better health now than I have ever been in my whole life. And I am proud to say, I am 51 years old!

There are a lot of people that have cured their illness on a raw plant food diet. I try and eat as much raw as possible. But I do tend to steam half my broccoli, and eat some raw. Going by this video, as long as you do not cook your broccoli for too long, it is meant to be absorbed by the body better. That is good news for my gravy recipe.

Blueberry & Kale Smoothie RECIPE thanks Dr. Greger


I came up with this new Blueberry and Kale Smoothie Recipe, thanks to Dr. Michael Greger. He recommends we eat berries, and greens every day. He is totally, my HERO! Thanks to You Tube, I found his outstanding Scientific Health Studies on Nutrition, which helped me cure not only my Asthma, but other health problems as well.

Now I can concentrate on getting my family, and friends healthy. That is if they are willing to look at the hard evidence! To think I was making my family ill, because I was not educated that the body can heal itself, given the right foods. PLANTS HEAL THE BODY! I had no idea how damaging junk food, and preservative foods are.

Anyway, this is now my daughters favourite smoothie. Dr. Greger recommends you eat healthy fats to help absorb the nutrition from fruit and veg. So I give Melody a handful of mixed unsalted nuts with her smoothie.

B12 Vitamin Japanese Knotweed?

Dr. Michael Greger mentions that we should supplement with B12. But the question is, can B12 be found in wild foods?

I have a blocked off stream, which floods the back garden. So I would assume there is plenty of B12 where the Japanese Knotweed, Stinging Nettle and Plantain grows. Quote from Fully Raw: I get checked once every 6 months or about 1-2 times a year, and I am currently NOT deficient in B12. Because I am not deficient, I currently choose not to supplement as per recommendation of Dr. Graham because I do not want to inhibit my body's ability to produce this vitamin on its own. In the past 8 years, I have tried it 3 times. It's the only supplement I've ever taken. All other supplements I do not believe in taking and am not deficient in these. I do believe that if you have to supplement, then your diet is incomplete.

I found this video very interesting. It mentions how plants contain B12. I think once the Japanese Knotweed, Plantain and Nettle dies off. I will make grass water. What a brilliant video, well worth watching. Makes you really think outside the box!

Dr. Michael Greger encourages us to eat our greens. Kale is really good for us, especially raw. But, eating it on it's own, now that is a challenge, LOL! When I made my daughters Kale and fruit smoothie the other day, I happened to taste the Kale with orange juice on it. And it was yummy!
