Save the butterfly plant buddleia for Peacock Butterfly Red Admiral Butterfly

I picked up a copy of Gardner's World (July 2011) because the cover of the magazine had a butterfly with the heading "save our butterflies." I am a massive butterfly fan and love to see them fly around in our garden. For years I could not make out why we only attracted the white cabbage butterfly to our garden. Then I read about the buddleia plant. I think I planted this plant last year or the year before and wow for the first time I got to see the Peacock butterfly and photograph it. What a stunning butterfly it is, my heart sank as I stood above this gorgeous butterfly while it let me take photos. I also got to photograph the Red admiral butterfly, which made my day. You can see pictures of my butterflies in our Butterfly Lullaby garden below (butterfly below is the Peacock butterfly:)

Butterflies are magical little creatures as they turn into fairies at night. A real childhood garden adventure! Anyone that loves butterflies please go and buy this magazine as it is packed full of details on how to save our butterflies. There is also a special offer for butterfly plants. Today I am going to read as much as I can on now to save the butterfly. One interesting thing I found out and that is those horrible stinging nettles are important food for some caterpillars. We don't have any so I will have to ask our school if I could dig one of theirs up. Today I wish I was stinking rich as I would buy the school field instead of them selling it off for housing. Then the field could be shared with the Welsh School so they don't have to travel 45 minutes for their sports day. The kids love playing in the field after school we are all very sad.

If you go to www.gardenersworld.com/images you will be able to see the relevant caterpillars.

Join the Big Butterfly Count from 16 July to 31 July. Simply make a note of any butterflies you spot over a fifteen minute period.  www.bigbutterflycount.org

I am going to do some more research and try and share with you what I know and hopefully together we can save our butterfly for our children and their children to enjoy.

I will be back to share more butterfly and fairy images...

Teachers strike equality is a joke stop ironing his shirts

Good luck to the teachers for striking for human and women's rights on Thursday 30th June 2011. I know it is difficult for Mum's who have to pay for childcare, especially as wages are low and the cost of living is so high, but too many people put up and shut up. We will never get change if we do not fight for it! If women did not fight we would not be able to vote as we are today. And as for equality and women having to work until we are 68 years old. I want to see all women typing up an itinerary of what they do in one week compared to their husband or partner. I think you will find he gets a hell of a lot of relaxation time to you! Men will start outliving women soon as equality  has come with a price, women do far too much compared to most men! Ladies please stop ironing his shirts, and Mum's with sons "make them tidy up like you would girls." If you don't they will get nagged for the rest of their life and make their partner very unhappy!

Teachers have to train really hard to be a teacher and put up with a lot of rubbish. I personally think these School inspections put too much pressure on our teachers and the children, and that money should be spent on getting rid of asbestos in our schools as this is serious! My little girl hates reading, but her teacher is amazing! So I support her 100%. I know if her class was smaller she would be able to give my child the support she needs to progress with her reading. I most certainly would not want her job! And to put the icing on the cake her teacher gets moved to teach other classes due to cut backs! My friend is a teachers assistant and I cannot believe the jobs she has to do for a disgusting salary of only £700 a month. I will have to blog about this later. Seriously she has to teach kids how to swim with no training or pay increase. Guess it saves money and lets face it women should just put up and shut up!  Lets look back at history for a minute on how women made a stand for their right as human beings and got to the right to vote:

Only yesterday on the news there was a mention about further education and how it will help "BRIGHT" students. Well is it any wonder we have children growing up feeling they are not good enough. Bright students as they put it are lucky to have an amazing memory to absorb all the information. And no doubt have family that have lots of money, which of course helps as they do not have the stresses of life people without money have!

Thankfully after 10 whole years of nagging and Facebook. My partner has asked me to draw up a chore list. A) I think he is fed up with being nagged and B) I have explained to him how important it is that our little girl has a happy life and knows that she is not going to be a slave to anyone. I still cannot make out why it is so difficult for him to put his washing in the basket. His Mother tried to make him do it, but he finds the whole thing too difficult. And talking to other friends they have the same problem.

Women want equality but it comes at a big cost because not all men are good around the house and share half the chores. Lets face it ladies when we grew up the boys never did any washing up, it was always the girls that ended up doing everything. For me I used to get paid 50p a week to wash up and dry up whilst my sister got paid a £1 to sit there and watch me. Work that one out. Lets just say that  my Mother has been ill all my life and I did not want to cause her anymore problems so just got on with it. And as for my sister well she has had a tough life and I am ashamed to say I got spoilt by my real Fathers family and now I am all grown up I feel guilty that I did not stand up for her, so I am doing so now.

Ladies stop ironing his shirts, type up an itinerary of what you do every day and show him just how much time he gets to relax compared to you! And lets get some changes made so our little girls grow up and get the respect they should get from the man they eventually marry. Now I have had my moan for the day, I am going to go and plant some plants in my garden as that is the one place that blows all my worries away. Wish me luck with the lavatera, my friend thinks the soil in Wales is different to England and that is why they keep dying. I really hope it is just that I have purchased the wrong type of lavatera as this one is a perennial. And before I go, get your kids out in the garden and show them how to use their immagination and create adventures like we used to do. I loved making mud pies. X-Box and other games are not good for them.

Film Trust - David Schwimmer stolen childhood educate family values through school

I saw a clip of the film Trust which was created by David Schwimmer. I really hope this film creates change in family life. We need to protect our children and educate them so they can protect themselves against this sort of thing ever happening to them. But we as parents need to stop making our children grow up too quickly! And that goes for schools too. I believe a10 year old child should not be going out in a limo with all their school friends to a prom. And as for s-x education, 10 years old is far too young to be teaching about that sort of thing and boys and girls should be split into groups not educated together! This gives children a signal that they are a grown up when really they are still very much a child and need to stop being pressured by society to be an adult. The clip below of David talking about how he has created this film for pure awareness brought tears to my eyes. I hope with all my heart that people will talk about this film, go and see it at the Cinema, which I am definitely going to do and tell everyone you know about how important it is we as parents talk to our children and protect them from a world that can be very cruel and very dangerous.

I am sending a big thank you to David Schwimmer for creating the film Trust and I hope with all my heart that this film will touch peoples hearts. To steel a child's childhood is a crime that can never be forgiven. The justice system needs to change and something needs to be done about website hosting companies with no family values, who in my view are not protecting our children! The computer should be in the lounge area so parents have more control and we need free IT help to educate us on how to keep track of what they are up to on line and how to block sites! A Mother has the right to say no to muck coming into the household! Parents need to sit down and talk to their child and explain why they are not allowed to go on Facebook, without scaring them too much. The Police Officer that came out to see me told me about a young 17 year old girl who befriended a man on Facebook, he obviously disguised his identity as a good looking teenage boy. This man took her life and did things to her that I cannot even bear to think about. I have come across some very nasty people in my life and that is why I take this sort of thing seriously. Don't give your child a mobile phone, this will distance your protection and you will lose control. I have gone one step better, I don't use a mobile phone (I have my partners old phone but I only use it when visiting family I love and respect. And I am really annoyed that the mobile phone company has sold on my number for lack of use because I cannot even retrieve my old family photos.) No mobile phone is going to protect your child. The peer pressure children have through school is not good and creates danger. Thankfully my child sees mobile phones for children as silly. And if Mummy does not have a mobile phone then why should I!

David if you read this post. Please try and do something about website hosting companies. If we can find hosting companies with real family values that do not host stuff that is not child friendly then we can change our society. Adult sites have a lot to answer for! I want my child to grow up and find a partner that respects her as a human being, so society needs to change!

When a child's childhood is stolen from them by some selfish disgusting adult, they never forget, this memory lives on and haunts their life forever and it destroys their very sole. It can even cause mental illness, which is a life sentence. The video below shows pictures of my sister and I as children. I have many happy childhood memories, but like most of us, I have very sad ones too. The sad memories have been used as a learning curve and given me knowledge that I have to protect my child. I miss my sisters smile! A stranger stole it from her, like a stranger stole my mothers childhood and left us children with an empty shell.  My sister has mirrored my Mother's illness because of one haunted childhood memory that will never go away. My hope for the future is that I will one day be in a position to erase that memory by paying for a top hypnotist to delete it for good, then she can live again and leave the past behind! (Don't buy the song Mother, long story!)

We live in a really strange world where children are told off for telling tales. No one likes a tale teller. Basically some people are teaching children that it is wrong to tell the truth. This really bugs me. Telling the truth is very important and can keep your child safe! Don't ever tell a child off for telling tales, because you will stop them from telling you what is really important. They will feel they cannot tell you when someone selfish and evil is trying to steel their childhood away. People tell me I am over protective with my child, but that is because I don't live in fairyland I know there are bad people and I will do all I can to protect her from the real world. One way to do this is to never put up and shut up and to fight back. I feel for people that are victims of abuse when it is not a stranger but someone they know as some family's would rather sweep it under the carpet and protect the abuser than give a shoulder to cry on for the victim. My advice to anyone in that situation is you can chose your friends but you can't chose your family. Let go of bad baggage. If someone loves you there is no way on this earth they would ever hurt you. Society makes us feel like bad people if we do not put up and shut up, the only way forward is to talk about things and demand change! Now go and make your child's childhood a happy one. Build a den in the garden, make some mud pies and show them what real childhood is all about. Learning about the birds and the bees should be learning about bumble bees that buzz from one flower to the next and little birds singing in the trees.

David Schwimmer is part of the Rape Foundation. He created the film Trust because two of his former girlfriends were victims of child abuse.

Pink lavatera my Wimbledon garden - Sharon J. Bainbridge

When I lived in Wimbledon we had an amazing bright pink lavatera, which I just loved. I have always enjoyed planting things and have been a great lover of the outdoors since childhood. But why oh why can I not grow a lavatera here in Wales? Over 6 years I have tried to plant all sorts of lavatera plants and all of them have died. Any advice? What am I doing wrong? Picture of me below in my Wimbledon garden sitting on the grass right next to my gorgeous pink lavatera plant.

I have just done some research and found that most garden centres do not stock Perennial Lavatera's, so that has no doubt been my problem. I just assumed that the Lavatera plants were all Perennials. I have found a place on line which stock the Perennial Lavatera, so wish me luck. On Mums Net they are having a discussion about a gorgeous purple lavatera, I wonder if I can talk her into swapping cuttings? That is if the plant has not been killed off by our harsh winter. What a great club that would be swapping cutting by post. One way to make up for low wages and poor lifestyle. Good luck to the teachers on Thursday who are on strike because of pension cuts etc, I feel sorry for them. It is important we fight for justice! They are under so much stress with all these silly inspections. That money should be spent on stuff like making schools safe and getting rid of asbestos on school canteen roofs!

My ex and I used to do the garden together. I still cannot believe we turfed the whole of the garden ourselves. Ok it was a small garden, but it was damn hard work digging up the old path etc. When he used to cut back my lovely pink lavatera I used to hit the roof. "Don't cut all the flowers off  my lovely plant" I would cry. Because I love the wild look.

I am currently using my partners computer as mine is not working, surprised "not!" It will be so nice when life starts to go the way it should. Oh well who cares because when I am outside in my garden I think of nothing but how lucky we all are to have such a beautiful planet. And that is why we all need to do our bit and recycle for our children's and their children's future. I love the den my little girl and I have built together. Try and get out in the garden this summer with your kids and show them what real childhood is all about. I can help you with that memory and show you how to create some magical things! Here is a video of the den. We have moved the old sandpit down the garden and now have tadpoles. Will show you updates soon as I am going to plant some dwarf water Lillie's in the pond.

If you fancy swapping cuttings get in touch. Leave me a message! www.butterflylullaby.co.uk , fairy songs, fairy portraits, art and crafts for children, music, fairy music, true stories, poems, children's stories, free fairy network for businesses and stay at home Mum's (Mom's)

Wimbledon - how martial arts Kempo stopped a big fight on the tube

When I lived in Wimbledon I look back with total respect for my ex boyfriend Scott and our friend Eddie who are both amazing at Kempo martial arts. We were on the Tube from Wimbledon going to Central London when a couple of guys started on Eddie and Scott for no reason. I think they must have been drunk or just general trouble makers. I stood back in amazement that neither one of them flattened these guys as they were both 2nd Dan black belts or even higher. Instead they just tried to calm the situation down. Very impressive! They have so much power and could have stopped these guys with one blow, but they didn't due to self control and discipline.

I have watched The Karate Kid 2010 twice now with my child, and the second time of viewing this amazing film my little girl said to me "Mummy, I want to be able to do that." I told her about the times when I was out in New Zealand and learned a little bit about martial arts. My boyfriend at the time was a Kempo Instructor at a Dojo and the only way I got to see him was by going to martial arts twice a week. But I actually began to really enjoy it. I know I only got up to yellow belt but I was only in New Zealand for seven months. Some women moan about their bingo wings, well I can tell you this really tones up your arms, big time! I am personally glad I have got to the age where it really does not matter anymore and I can finally be myself. But at the same time I think it is important I try and eat healthy and do some fitness as I want to be around for my little girl as long as possible and never be a burden. For me you don't bring children into the world to look after you in your old age! They deserve a stress free life!

I don't think they teach Kempo in the UK. So I have emailed Scott to see if I can buy a DVD and teach my little girl myself from home. I think it will be pretty cool as Kempo martial arts is so good for discipline and respect. There used to be a video of me practicing martial arts, but it has got lost from all the moves. It will not be the same as the beautiful Dojo in Browns Bay New Zealand with sea views, but it will be nice to do something together that we can both enjoy. What a shame I lost the video of me doing Kempo, she would have loved to see her Mum strut her stuff.

Some of the moves have been coming back to me, I made my little girl and her friend giggle yesterday when I showed them how to do a power punch. It is all in the flick of the wrist. Guess it is a little bit like riding a bike.

I miss my New Zealand friend Cathy who I used to do Kempo, Martial Arts with, I wonder where she is today? Scott was also one of my best friends. Even though we were together for eight years it was never meant to be and I can honestly say hand on heart I have no regrets. He taught me that some men can date a women purely for friendship and that is something I will always be proud of.
