Effect of oral resveratrol on the BDNF gene expression in the hippocampus of the rat brain.

Abstract

Resveratrol is a plant polyphenolic compound. Evidence indicates that resveratrol has beneficial effects against ageing and neurodegenerative diseases. The goal of our study was in vivo examination of the effects of resveratrol on the abundance of mRNA encoding Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) in the hippocampus of rat brain. Rats were administrated orally by different doses (2.5-20 mg/kg bwt) of resveratrol for 3, 10 and 30 days. Saline was used as control and 10% ethanol in saline was used as vehicle for resveratrol. Measurement of BDNF mRNA by Real-time RT-PCR showed that levels of the mRNA for BDNF were significantly and dose dependently elevated in the hippocampal tissues of rats. The findings suggest that the neuroprotective effects of resveratrol may be at least partly due to its inducing effects on the expression levels of the BDNF mRNA.

LUCKY MUM BEST DAUGHTER Melody Angel

I thought I would make a You Tube video, dedicated to my wonderfully kind daughter ... Melody!

One slight problem - the video broke down last year - so I cannot record what I would like to say. But I can put it down in words!

When I compare myself to my daughter at her age, I can feel nothing but pride. She has achieved great things, but more importantly she has become an outstanding and compassionate human being!

I just love all the wonderful family drawings she creates. It shows how important we are to her. 

When you watch TV shows like Britain's Got Talent, or American Idol, The Voice etc, you hear some really sad FAMILY stories. Children growing up without their mother, or father. Either the parent/grandparent died, or somehow they missed out on having both parents together. These stories are VERY important! It proves just how much a child needs their biological mother and father. Of course there are some wonderful step parents, I think of my stepfather as my real DAD. Not to mention Foster Parents. My Nan was an orphan, and out of all the dreadful Foster Parents, she eventually ended up with two wonderful people who treated her like their own daughter. Her story makes me feel very grateful for the loving family I am blessed with. 

The wonderful gifts my daughter makes for me, shows how much she truly appreciates and loves me. Here is a beautiful handmade butterfly box, and the message inside is priceless!

I always tell my daughter, money is not important, it is the thought that counts. I adore homemade things. A drawing, song etc. Melody always asks me what I would like for Mothers Day, Birthday, Christmas, and I tell her ... "YOU ARE MY BIGGEST GIFT, I DON'T NEED ANYTHING ELSE!"

This Christmas she brought me a pair of slippers out of her own money. I felt very honoured that she would spend her money on me, especially as I don't expect her to. 

Mothers Day was out of this world. She drew this beautiful drawing (see below). And the message brought tears to my eyes. Melody also made me a healthy breakfast, and gave me a beautiful bunch of flowers. Talk about being spoilt. I feel very lucky indeed! But the drawings, and songs I will treasure forever!!!

Melody created this song, '"Family Joy," quite a few years ago. The fact she made it up on the spot shows pure genius.
