Hi Sharon, for information the use of the weed killers we use is again under review by the Local Government Association and as part of this process we have been asked to supply any details of other systems we have considered. I hadn’t heard of Rootwave but we had included electrical treatment as one of the other alternatives along with hot water blanching.

MY FATHER WORKED FOR THE COUNCIL AS A GARDENER!
Thankfully, my father used to work for the Council. So I get a lot of gardening advice from him. He told me that every plant can be controlled if you keep cutting it back, that includes Japanese Knotweed.
If this plant was so very bad, it would have moved from our bottom garden to the first garden near our house. But this plant has stayed where it is. I keep it away from my neighbours fence either side. And use it for drinks, food, soap, face oil, relaxing baths and feed indoor plants with it and our rabbits. The uses for this plant are never ending! It has many medical patents, and more Resveratrol than GRAPES! (Resveratrol ... French Paradox).
Note. In 15 years the Japanese Knotweed has not ventured into my neighbours garden. It is well away from the fence. Our neighbour is lovely!

Japanese knotweed is a well known source of resveratrol since extraction is straightforward and cheap. I believe it is now the only source of resveratrol for skincare applications.
Many large supplement sources of resveratrol use Japanese knotweed and use its scientific name in the supplement labels. Japanese knotweed is a concentrated source of emodin, used as a nutritional supplement to regulate bowel motility. The roots of Japanese knotweed are used in traditional Chinese and Japanese herbal medicines as a natural laxative. The active principle responsible for the laxative effect is emodin, present in its natural form as a complex of its analogues.

Find a place to buy Japanese Knotweed is difficult due to resveratrol’s current popularity. A few years ago it was to be found in most places that sold nutrients en masse to the pill manufacturers. Now, all the big companies have contracted it all.
We did find a couple places to buy Japanese Knotweed root. They are in dried root form; they suggest you dissolve it in hot water to make a tea. I think you’ll find the idatori tea recipe below more palatable, being made from the stems and leaves – but it’s worth a try:
Itadori Tea; A Great Source of Trans-Resveratrol
Major dietary sources of resveratrol include grapes, wine, peanuts, cranberries and blueberries. However, since resveratrol is absorbed best in the mouth through buccal absorption, it is best introduced to the diet through red wine, liquid nutritional supplements or Itadori tea.
Itadori Tea has been used in Japan and China as a traditional herbal remedy for heart disease and strokes (and as a natural laxative). The Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry studies state that, ”For people who do not consume alcohol, Itadori tea may be a suitable substitute for red wine.”
