Fairy and fantasy portraits - photography by Sharon J. Bainbridge from Butterfly Lullaby

I would like to share with you some of my fairy and fantasy portraits I created of babies and children. Some of the fairy portraits are featured in my fairy book Butterfly Lullaby. I personally love the childhood Victorian images I created with the old fashioned pram and the Little James Dean on the motorbike. Another favourite is the Easter picture of the baby standing inside an eggshell holding an Easter Chicken.

I created a lot of my fairy costumes in my book Butterfly Lullaby from scratch with no patterns. I guess you could say I know how to fluke it! I love the little Victorian style dress I made out of an old Disney quilt cover.

My little fairy story Colour me a fairies wish is something I am very, very proud of. I had the chance to work with a very famous man who has over 30 years on Children's TV. We were going to do personalised fairy stories together. Robin ended up moving to the USA and now I believe is working for American TV. But at least I have this one amazing piece of work where he is reading out my fairy story.

Robin inspired me to create a fairy puppet for my story Colour me a fairies wish, which you can view below:

I ended up making a fairy flan which looks brilliant with the fairy puppet on top, which can be personalised for any child.

I will be attempting to create another butterfly fairy cake using my fairy puppet, as I would like the wings to look more like the original wings in the fairy story.

In the video below you can see my handmade fairy costumes worn by the amazing Mark Jermin Stage School dancing to our original song Butterfly Lullaby song at my book launch back in March 2007:

I used to be at the top of Google with fairy and fantasy portraits when my website was up and running with the website fairy shop. Lets just say their are people on the net that want to make my life difficult. I now see this as a compliment, rather than a threat as I obviously have something they want. My Google Blog and You Tube have been a blessing. What a wonderful free service to express your art and crafts. Especially important for struggling Mum's and Dad's that just do not have the money to create a website and find it difficult to pay nether ending fees to sell their work when it is only listed for a short time. I hope my website will be up and running again when things get better, for now if people like my work it will have to all be done by post. Address on my Butterfly Lullaby website.

Last year I contacted the Lottery funding in the hope that they would fund my Butterfly Lullaby website so I could offer Mum's and Dad's a chance to sell their arts and crafts from my website with no upfront fees. And they would only have a selling fee, which is just their to cover the website costs. Sadly I got a big no! I personally find this very sad, as their is just not enough help for parents trying to earn a living from home so our children can come first. So many Mother's are made to go out to work and leave their child with sitters, because they have no other way to pay the bills! This is really sad! When I walk my little girl to school and pick her up, her little face lights up. She said to me last night, "Mummy I don't care about anything else, as long as I have you and Daddy." So it just proves it, money is not everything to a child. You just cannot buy real love!

Living in Wales, so far away from all my blood family has been very hard. Especially when it comes to raising children, as family support is vital when it comes to paying the bills. I am so fortunate to have so many wonderful and kind friends that have been their for me. Chrissie thank you for putting us up when we needed a place to stay. Thank you Jo for believing in my art and photography when some others have made me feel worthless. I was over the moon to know that not only you loved the picture I created of your little girl but your husband did too. And I want to thank you for offering to show my photography to your work colleagues. Julia thank you for giving me beautiful clothes for my little girl over the tough years and for supporting me through bad times. Lyndsey thank you for being a shoulder to cry on and for telling my partner that you think of me as one of the most unselfish people you have ever come across and for believing in me. Also thanks to Nicki, Elaine, Caroline and Maggie for just being their for me.

I may not be rich financially, but I am one of the most richest people in the world when it comes to friends that really love and care about me. Thank you - I love you all!
