Most people complain about the Japanese Knotweed, but my little girl and I love it. We have created the most amazing Japanese Knotweed house to spy on the fairies. I did look into making a Willow house as they have an amazing one at the school. But the size I want will cost a lot of money. So I will have to have a go at growing the willow from cuttings.
For years I was unable to mow the back garden because the ground was so uneven so the garden ended up being taken over by blackberry bushes. I decided enough was enough and I hired a rotavator. Now we have a blank canvas to work some fairy magic.
On Sunday for the first time ever, since growing up, I felt like a little girl again having fun outside on a magical adventure, it was like going back in time. What a buzz! Remember those butterflies of excitement you used to get as a child, well it was just like that, how I have missed that feeling. I noticed there was a sort of doorway in the trees so I cut down all the blackberry bushes that got in the way and created a space under the tree that I can only describe as a little fairy den. It seems to have a little kitchen area and we found a tree stump which we used for a table. There is a sort of doorway that leads to the lounge area where I have put up a tent like seat, which has been in the shed for years. There is a back doorway to the log steps leading up to the garden. I still have a long way to go in making it look like a house, but over time I believe it can be achieved, especially if I can grow willow in the garden and create unique willow fairy furniture for the den.
The best thing was to see my own little girl smiling, singing and thoroughly enjoying herself on the adventures she has missed out on over the years. Childhood is not the same for children like it was in my day. But now I have solved that. Sunday lunchtime I said to my little girl you are only young once sweetie pie, don't grow up too fast. Make some mud pies with your friends. She started to cry and then sobbed her little heart out "my friends don't wont to make mud pies with me Mummy." That was when it hit me, I can't have my little girl growing up and never knowing what it is like to make a mud pie, that was when our big adventure began!
I cannot wait to go back outside and start our little adventure again, creating the magical fairyland we have both always longed for. The land that makes you forget your troubles and turns you into that child with all the hopes and dreams you can wish for. Mud pies here we come! And I expect to see the Butterfly Lullaby fairies very soon!
Update 29th June 2011
Here is a video of our little Den. The grass has taken quite nicely now from seed. And I have ordered some dwarf lillies for our little pond which currently has tadpoles. Frogs love us in Wales!
Our garden is a work in progress more videos to come. And I am going to make that mud pie and show my little girl just how much fun childhood is outdoors instead of being stuck inside playing silly little Nintendo DS games. Seriously who wants to pat a pretend dog!
