I LOVE ALL PEOPLE, SKIN COLOUR SHOULD NOT BE A THING!
It was not until I worked in a London Pub in the early 90s that I experience true racism. A white, skin head, middle aged ENGLISH man said to me in a aggressive manner, "Bubble get me a drink!"
I asked him, "Why are you calling me Bubble?"
He replied, "Because you are Greek!"
I laughed, and with a big grin on my face I said with PRIDE, "Actually, my Grandmother is of mixed blood: Burmese, French and English!"
From that day, he never called me Bubble again!
My sister is white skinned, and my brother is dark skinned. Both were sadly bullied in State School. My brother was bullied for his skin colour!
THANKFUL FOR MY WHITE SKIN!
Not a day goes by that I am not sincerely grateful for my white skin. Why? Because my Grandmother died feeling ugly because she was not white in colour. Her white Grandmother blamed her Burmese Mother for her DARK skin colour, and gave her up to the State Children's Care System. Losing her parents at such a young age was tough for my NAN. But she was a WARRIOR! Our grandmother gave us the amazing childhood she never had, so I have much to be grateful for. One thing I really loved about my nan is the way she never forced her religion on me or our family. She loved us for who we are. I am lucky today to have religious friends that also love me the way my Nan did, and do not want to change me. They don't care that I don't follow their religion. And for that I am truly grateful!
MY NAN, MY HEROINE AND ROLE MODEL!
I have a wonderful Muslim Family man on my gardening group. I love all people for who they are. And hope they can love us for who we are.
